Sierra L. Thomas, MSW, LSW

Background & Education

Sierra was born and raised in inner-city Cleveland, Ohio. She prides herself on being a mother and servant of Christ first. Her hobbies include: spending quality time with family and friends, laughing, dancing, cooking, traveling and coloring.

Sierra obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Women and Gender Studies, from the University of Dayton. Subsequently, followed a Master of Arts in Social Work, with concentration Advanced Generalist: Children and Families, from Wright State University. She is currently licensed by the State of Ohio to provide therapy and counseling services.

Career & Passion

Sierra is a single mom that struggled with low socioeconomic while enduring teenage pregnancy. Sierra's journey got tougher when having to face young marriage, immigration laws, and divorce before the age of 25. To compound the complications, Sierra also had to grieve the loss of her grandmother and assist her parents in adapting to medical life-style changes. During this 10 years of pain, Sierra's family created an amazing support system around her. They encouraged her daily to never quit and she is ready to provide that same support to you!

Sierra has been serving in the mental health field for 10+ years as a mentor, case manager, high-fidelity wraparound facilitator, and therapist. During her career she has served specialty populations with severe and persistent mental illness, co-occurring addictions, trauma and abuse, complicated grief, poverty, and homelessness. She has also served mothers with postpartum and minority college students adapting to campus life.

Individual and family services focus on fostering esteem building, connection to resources and education, teaching coping skills, effective communication techniques, assistance with business principles, life skills, organization, budgeting, time management, personal motivation, and problem-solving barriers.

Theoretical Framework & Diagnosing

Sierra practices from the Cognitive-Behavioral framework and incorporates some interventions from other evidenced-based practices such as: solution focused brief therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, and the psychoanalytic approach.

She specializes in serving those struggling with: depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, conduct/impulse control disorders, cognitive delays, and anger management.
